With only 31 rooms, this is the only hotel located at the entrance of Machu Picchu. While most travelers have to wake up at 4am to get in line for the local shuttle bus (then spend another 40 minutes en route) to get to the entrance of Machu Picchu, an overnight stay here means you can avoid the crowds and visit Machu Picchu conveniently without any hassles. Although a night here has a price tag of almost $1000/night, it is well worth it for a chance to experience Machu Picchu at different times of the day.

A stay at GHL Hotel Lake Titicaca, on the private island of Esteves, offers you a privileged position from which to marvel at the richly colored dawn sky or relax at the end of the day with a glass of red wine as you watch the sunset over the lake. I want to say mahalo AGAIN for doing such an excellent job in guiding us through the amazing tour of Peru and returning us safely back home. Your warm personality and cheerfulness that greeted us every morning pushed us to our physical limits on the climbs.....of which I’m sure I lost some brain cells from lack of oxygen.....but now we can all say “been there-done that!!”

It was awesome that we could take our time and were not rushed. It was a difficult hike (Huayna Picchu) to do at high altitude but making it to the top was worth it. We managed to make down barely in time for check out but it was great that the couple behind us was able to get an extension on their check out time. It was great that Manu was able to go up the mountain with us. He was a big help with the slower group.

My recent tour with Supera to Peru has been as memorable as my last two (Hokkaido, Taiwan). But this one stands out so I decided to write about it. Due to its altitude and terrain, Peru/Machu Picchu poses particular challenges to travelers like myself. Trip design is excellent, well paced, top notch hotels, exquisite cuisine. All of our guides are great. Special shout-out to our tour leader Manu. He is responsive, resourceful and has attention to detail. The sunrise at Lago Titicaca is well-planned and memorable (hot coffee and a warm fire pit, wow ). Would I travel with Supera again? Absolutely!
